How the job goes

  1. Warm the engine briefly, park on level ground, and shut it off.
  2. Drain the oil.
  3. Remove the old filter (or, on cartridge housings, unscrew the cap and pull the old element). Make sure the old gasket or O-ring came out.
  4. Install the new filter or element with its new O-ring/gasket lightly oiled; tighten spin-ons hand-tight plus about 3/4 turn, or the cartridge cap to the torque on the cap.
  5. Reinstall the drain plug, refill with the grade and amount in your owner's manual, run the engine, and check for leaks.

Before you order

  • Check your owner's manual for oil grade and capacity; they differ by engine.
  • 2011–2013 3.6L engines use a different filter (68079744AD).
